I have just received the shocking news about the passing of a great man, father, and friend. I met Jim back around 1990 and had the distinct pleasure of spending many wonderful days with him. Just a few memories-- State/UNC football games, picking me up off the Applachian Trail near Franklin and telling me how bad I smelled! Ossabaw island, Clemson, Merlefest, Holly, their wedding, the births of his children, fishing, his generosity and wonderful personality. My wife Julie and I are blown away and regret only finding out now. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, he was a outstanding person and will remain in our hearts and memories.

My sincere sympathy is extended to Jim's immediate and extended family. Many years ago there was the Dixie Theater in Scotland Neck, N. C. I recall well being in the theater when a very pregnant with Jim Lena came in with her husband Jimmy. That was the summer of 1970 and just a very short time before Jim was born. About five years later I was Jim's kindergarten teacher at Enfield Academy. I remember Jim's ever present smile. I haven't seen Jim for a very long time. It sounds like, though, that his ever present small was at least one of his trademarks. I was saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Speaking from experience, I can speculate that only those who have experienced a loss such as this really know or can identify with the pain. No doubt Jim's light will forever shine in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. I hope adjusting to this tragedy will be smooth. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Colleen Bunting
